In a month I'm going on a tour of Italy with my near 70-year old mother. It looks pretty intense. What's the best way to manage exhaustion on a long tour?

Having traveled with my parents a number of times, I can tell you that exhaustion is pretty much guaranteed. But! The best way to battle it is by not trying to do everything. Don’t try to hit every museum, don’t try to see every sight and, hard as it may be, don’t try every flavor of gelato. By slowing down and enjoying the things you do fit in, you’ll have a better trip—and come home on speaking terms, too. Have fun! —PB

Been thinking for years about going to the Maldives. Major sticker shock but if I go, want to do it right. Can you recommend a good value?

A couple of hotel deals available now can soothe the budgetary sting. One&Only Reethi Rah is offering one night free on stays of seven nights, with half-board included. The Anantara Kihavah is offering seven nights for the price of five, with free breakfast daily. And the W Retreat & Spa: Maldives offers an early booking discount of 10 percent for reservations made more than 60 days out. Not much help, it’s true, but so it goes in the pricey Maldives. —PB

“Even if we can’t change the past, we have the beginnings of digital time travel.” —Said by Jack Eichenbaum, Queens Borough Historian and moderator of Social Media Week’s panel Future Library: Socializing History with Maps, which took place today at the New York Public Library. He was talking about maps from the past, maps from the future, and how we can overlay maps. (via nypl)
